St. Joseph Consecration & more...
April 20, 2020
Feast of St. Catherine of Siena
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Joseph Shrine,
Tomorrow is the day of our Total Consecration to St. Joseph, Deo gratias!
Tomorrow is also the day the Archdiocese's new liturgical directives begin. They include, "Each pastor should determine the maximum number of people allowed in the church at any one time based on the size, layout, ability to social distance, and the ability of the parish to clean the facility regularly."
Needless to say our church is very large and we are already blessed with incredible cleaning crew volunteers who sanitized the church Saturday, April 25th. Please simply leave a pew or two gap between households when present.
For tomorrow's ceremonies the 3 Masses will take place at the regular times,
Adoration will continue
throughout the day, and the clergy intend to process with the statue and second class relic of St. Joseph. Only for the 7pm Mass will the church be temporarily closed off for the live-stream and re-opened immediately afterward.
We will make the Total Consecration both on our daily
and at the end of our
7pm live-stream Mass
. You are more than welcome to come in person throughout the day to personally make your Total Consecration at the St. Joseph Altar. Both Canon Sequeira and I will be available for confessions all day as we are every day.
With the new stay at home order extending to May 15th our next earliest date we are looking to for 1st Communions is Pentecost, May 31st.
We are looking at June 18th as a possible date for the previously scheduled April 30th Annual Gala which is currently postponed.
Rest assured of our priestly commitment to continue to bring you the Sacraments. Never hesitate to contact us.
United in prayer and sacrifice under the paternal care of St. Joseph,
In Christo Rege Glorioso,
Canon Stein, Rector

According to St. Thomas Aquinas,
Spiritual Communion includes 2 main elements: an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and a loving embrace as though we had already received Him
. Spiritual communion produces within us effects similar to Sacramental Communion, according to the fervor of our desire and to the love with which we give Him welcome and attention. An ardent Spiritual Communion obtains for us the graces we need to become more pleasing to God, to practice virtue, and to avoid sin. An act of Spiritual Communion can be made with your own prayerful words or using a formula such as this one below.
Act of Spiritual Communion recommended by St. Alphonsus Ligouri:
My Jesus, I believe that Thou art truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love Thee above all things, and I long for Thee in my soul. Since I cannot now receive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace Thee as though Thou hast already come. I unite myself entirely to Thee. Never permit me to be separated from Thee. Amen.
