Prayers answered: Public Masses!
May 15, 2020
Feast of St. John Baptist de La Salle
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Joseph Shrine,
Deo gratias! Deo gratias again and again!! Starting as soon as Tuesday, May 19 public Masses may resume and by Friday, May 29 public Masses will resume in all the parishes across the Archdiocese of Detroit. Thus, this Sunday, May 17th will be our last 11am Livestream Mass. I thank our young men that volunteered their time and talent to make high quality streaming possible over the course of the past two months.
Please read carefully the
directives for the resumption of Public Masses
. Allow me to highlight a few of the points here. We will begin with 25% capacity to allow for appropriate spacing within the church, meaning a full pew or two of separation between households. Not only are we blessed with excellent nurses who guide our cleaning process, but we have a very large church with good air flow, multiple aisles worth of pews,
AND we will be greatly increasing the frequency of daily Mass.
In the time period of May 19th - May 29th when not all of the churches are open yet, we will have 3 daily weekday Masses at 8am, Noon, and 7pm. Saturday Mass at 9am. We will also begin to have 4 Sunday Masses starting on May 24th and they will be at 7am, 9am, 11am, and 1pm.
Our faithful ushers will be informed of their more detailed role; for example, pews will be invited to the Communion rail only a few at a time so that there is no congestion in the aisles. Please leave space between communicants at the rail too. Speaking of Communion, I am happy to announce that our small class of 1st Communicants will be able to make their
1st Communion on the feast of Pentecost, Sunday May 31st at the concluding 1pm High Mass.
Because this will be the 4th Mass of the day and the majority of the parish would have already attended Mass over the three previous time slots, you have more freedom for family and friends to be present and spread throughout the church for the liturgical ceremony.
Here are some liturgical dates of note:
- Wednesday, May 20th 8am Mass,
Noon Mass Fr. Marczewski's 25th Anniversary of
, and a 7pm Mass
- Thursday, May 21st Feast of the Ascension, 8am Mass, Noon Mass, 7pm Solemn
- Sunday, May 24th 7am Mass, 9am Mass with organ, 11am High Mass, 1pm High
- Sunday, May 31st Pentecost, 7am Mass, 9am Mass with organ, 11am Solemn High
Mass (new red vestments!), 1pm High Mass & 1st Communions
We are including below a calendar with the multiplied Mass times for your convenience.
Thank you for all of your prayers and sacrifices. I pray that we have all grown in love of the sacraments, fidelity to prayer life, and perseverance in trials.
