Gala Giving Novena!
June 20th 2020
Commemoration of St. Sylvester, Pope & Martyr
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Joseph Shrine,
With joy I take up the proverbial pen to write to you in between celebrations of the Sacred Heart: yesterday's Feast Day and tomorrow's External Solemnity. This Sunday's 11am High Mass (after the 7am and 9am Low Masses) will be the first Mass of the Cantatio in 2020. Cantatio is a unique four-part (TTBB) men's chorus that sings for our liturgies in the summer and we are most grateful for their select talent!
This letter contains very important information for upcoming celebrations and a vital giving drive.
Our Annual Legacy Gala was not able to take place under the usual conditions this past Spring, nor did any of the rescheduled dates work out (June 18th was the last attempt). These fundraising dinners are an annual opportunity to be together as an extended spiritual family enjoying delicious food, live entertainment, and raising funds for the restoration of our historic church and campus.
This year our Gala will be transposed to an online giving drive over the course of 9 days:
a Gala Giving Novena!
We will begin on Wednesday, June 24th (Nativity of St. John the Baptist) and conclude on Thursday, July 2nd (feast of the Visitation) Our urgent need that we will be funding is the extensive church stonework restoration: tuck-pointing, cleaning... and in dire places: outright replacing. Each day of the Gala Giving Novena, we will highlight a spiritual reason to give and a practical example of what the donation will fund. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram for these daily updates @StJosephShrineD.
But wait, there's more! We have received a $45,000 Matching Gift for this Gala Giving Novena. Over the course of those 9 days (June 24-July 2) if we raise $45k we will unlock another 45k, Deo gratias! A Gala Giving Novena option will be added to this donate page:
It is most fitting that we are in the phase of stonework. Surrounded by the turmoil of the world we need a rock solid Faith now more than ever! Will you build your life on the shifting sands of this world, or on the rock of the Church, the rock of Christ?
It should be clearer that we need Citadels of Sacraments!
Help restore the church that never ceased its ministry, that remained open and serving, available and confessing
. The stones of a church also represent the faithful joined together by the mortar of charity to form a visible House of God. We have more and more faithful i.e. living stones, help us restore the material stones of our Sacred Edifice. With renewed focus on what really matters, let us restore the very parish/church that survived the Civil War, the Spanish Flu, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, and so much more!
Thank you in advance! This Novena will include other joyful celebrations as well: the 10th Anniversary of my Priestly Ordination on July 1st, 7pm Solemn High Mass of the Precious Blood and Canon Sequeira's 5th Anniversary of his Priestly Ordination on July 2nd, 7pm Solemn High Mass of the Visitation. Please join us for those liturgies and again on Sunday, July 5th after the 11am High Mass for a joint Anniversary celebration with the faithful in and around our freshly painted social hall. Contribute to the Spiritual Bouquets for
The daily weekday Mass schedule this coming week will remain 8am and 7pm, except on Wednesday at Noon. Saturday Mass at 9am. Sunday Masses throughout the Summer will be 7am, 9am, and 11am.
United in prayer and gratitude,
In the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord,
Canon Stein, Rector
